"Runners, on your marks"


At 6AM Thursday, March 1st, I will be kicking off the first ever Beachbod-a-thon, where I'll do one of our Beachbody workouts every day until I've done them all!

P90X Ch 2. "The Making of"

After we knew basically what we were going to create - an EXTREME fitness program, we informed the company that we were going to document each step to try and create something more real than any other infomercial on TV, and to show people just how real the development process is. That meant THEY were going to be a part of the production process too!

Plaid is the New White

For the last year and a half, I have worn the same thing to work every day; a white button-down collar shirt, jeans and sneakers. The simplicity was refreshing, while a bit perplexing to the people who work at Product Partners. "Don't you get bored?" "How many of these white shirts do you own?"

Over a year, every day, until last Friday. When I looked at the shirts and decided, "I'm done with that." And I put on a new shirt.


That day I gave a tour to a friend who was visiting the office, and was shocked as every person I introduced him to did a double take; "Nice shirt Carl". "I hardly recognize you!" "What happened?"

One week later, today I walked into the office at 8:30Am, and by the time I saw about the fifth person "Hey Carl" wearing my personal uniform, I realized what co-founder Jon Congdon had put them up to: Virtually everyone in the company said goodbye to my outfit, by mocking it.
Gotta love these people!

Coaching While The Site's "Half On"


For Million Dollar Body Coaches who are wondering what to do while we get our act together, I wanted to give some input into some activities that could still have incredible benefit while tech completes the build/testing... but first, a story:



The following is written on the tomb of an Anglican Bishop in Westminster Abby (1100 A.D):

"When I was young and free and my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world. As I grew older and wiser, I discovered the world would not change, so I shortened my sights somewhat and decided to change only my country. But it, too, seemed immovable.

As I grew into my twilight years, in one last desperate attempt, I settled for changing only my family, those closest to me, but alas, they would have none of it.

And now, as I lie on my deathbed, I suddenly realize: If I had only changed myself first, then by example I would have changed my family. From their inspiration and encouragement, I would then have been able to better my country, and who knows, I may have even changed the world."


This is the point. And this is what we as coaches need to do;

(1) Work YOUR program. Set your goal. Keep Pushing Play! Keep watching your portions and making sure you eat every few hours but not the last three hours before bed. Upload your story to your profile page! Keep it current, including your stats and photos. Submit it to the monthly contest. Your choice is the example that is fundamental to being a Million Dollar Body Coach! And when you make your commitment to yourself, tell a couple friends: "I'll Do It If You'll Do It."

(2) Connect with those two people who you are going to help stay accountable. If you say you'll do it if they will, you gotta stay with it! Help them set a schedule in WOWY so they stay accountable to themselves. Help them understand how easy it is to lose weight when you control your portions and eat regularly throughout the day (but not right before bed). And remind them to keep their MDB member page updated. This is a weekly weigh-in of sorts, where you stop, see how you are proceeding, and are reminded that your choices will show up in your stats. Don't try to help everyone. Help two people this way. And then...

(3) Ask them who they are going to help. Those two, help two. They follow step one and two. How simple is that?

Not so simple. If it were simple, we'd all be lean, with energy and high metabolisms. This is a new lifestyle for so many, or at best an annual flight of fitness in preparation for swimsuit season... "This year I really am going to feel good about my body for the summer!"

Whatever the habits that got you here, as of now, Gone is Big Gulp. Gone is the Double Beef Cheeseburger and Extra Large Fries. And, coincidentally, gone will be the gut.

On March 1st, I will be starting my Beachbod-a-thon, updating my stats and photos and story (and blog, and uploading videos, etc.) and I encourage you to follow along and stay connected. I'll ask the team to set up a WOWY group for us through August called "Beachbod-a-thon" if you want to participate. But the real point is -- work on your health, follow your program, and help two others do the same. The tools are all right there. This is how the trend will reverse. I live it. You live it. And we each help a couple others do the same.

The compensation for being a coach will happen as soon as the system is good to go. In the meantime, the real reward is when you stay with your program and get two people on board and working on becoming their own walking billboards. THAT'S what this is about, regardless of when the web store is live. Let's get healthy, and help people get healthy, starting now!

Chalene's Crew Got Mojo!

Ok... this blog is about to get more interesting with video. Who needs to read anymore. Ok. So, at the recent turbo shoot I overheard Chalene surfing YouTube. So I poked around the site, and found this gem. Anyone who think Turbo Jam is a bunch of blondes kicking and punching is about to get schooled. Chalene and her posse can dance. Who says getting ripped can't be fun?

"Daddy, where do extreme workout videos come from?"

Now that people are seeing P90X on TV and featured in MDB Winners segments, people are starting to recognize that P90X is unlike any DVD workout series ever created. Which means, it's even more meaningful to share the evolution of the program now than it was when we started.


The production department is digitizing and uploading the "Making Of P90X" videos which were created by award winning filmmaker Ned Farr. Ned followed us into all meetings, through production and design, and then assembled the hours of reality footage into an amazing series that show just how complex and challenging the development process can be. He then built them into the most compelling and unique infomercial ever created. Thanks to Ned's focus, P90X redefined the infomercial.

When a group of creative people are all determined to make spectacular videos, supplements, a very effective diet guide, and a game-changing infomercial, there will be fireworks.

Chapter One "Guys in Blue Shirts" went up on YouTube last night, and while the compression quality needs to be refined, it's still fun to travel back in time to the very first conversation we ever had with Tony Horton about the product. I think you'll enjoy it!

The 2007 Beachbod-a-thon




Ok... This is gonna be interesting. As I mentioned in an email to the Million Dollar Body Coaches, my Daughter Ava had an idea that, since I have all these workout DVD's, I should do a different one every day.

Sooooo - Starting March first, I am going to go for it. The count I've got so far is 110 titles. Not bad for a company that opened it's doors less than 100 months ago!

I was going to list the order, but instead I am going to keep it interesting, and pick the title randomly, so all eight of you who read this blog have something to tune into from time to time!

Actually, I will commit to starting with this title: Tony Horton's HO' ALA KE KINO ("Awaken the Body"). We shot it on the beach in Kauai during the second Hawaii trip, and it was one of the most difficult titles to name. I bought a Hawaiian dictionary to tinker with words and phrases that fit what Tony put together. It is actually one of my favorites for getting started, so that will be the title... March 1st... The 2007 Beachbod-a-thon begins!

The January Winners Are In!


How exciting is this? Our first ever monthly success story winners, for January 2007, have just been announced at Million Dollar Body!

After you watch the clip, take a second and think about what it must be like for these members, once they deposit the $1,000 or $10,000 check, and the reality sinks in. They are now really in the running for the grand prize; $50,000 in each age category, and $250,000 for the best male and female transformation stories of the year. And all it will take for them to compete is to keep working out, keep eating right, and surround yourself with a peer group of like-minded people. What incredible motivation to get ripped!

That is exciting! I've never won anything personally. But I can imagine that at first when you win, the concept seems exciting enough, kind of like when we used to call people to invite them to Hawaii. But once these folks really give some thought to the fact that they are so close to another pay day, well, I imagine the alarm in the morning is a little easier to respond to!

I am told that the entries for February are great too - especially inspiring, in fact. And that's what it's all about, because as cool as the cash is, it's extra sweet to be able to enjoy the money when you are actually healthy! There's the real win!
