The Rumors Were True

Any Beachbody complaints about not getting noticed by the media are distant history. And P90X is the best free publicist we could have hoped for.

Without spending a dime on endorsements or PR efforts, word continues to spread about the shift in health and fitness from gyms and trainers to our DVD programs, and it seems to be nearing a real tipping point.

First it was Chicago lead singer Jason Scheff who used P90X and the coaching opportunity to motivate himself to get back into shape. Then it was NFL kicker David Akers who's trainer suggested P90X to answer coach Andy Reid's command to get back into pro-bowl condition. Then People ran a story on Poppy Montgomery from Without A Trace. Then we got calls that Sheryl Crow has transformed her body with P90X, and went on and on about it on the red carpet of the Grammys. Then at the Pro Bowl, Baltimore Ravens' super star Ray Lewis told the media he uses P90X.

And then there was a rumor that a "Twitter Tweet" surfaced that Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore were asking questions about this P90X thing they keep seeing on TV.

It looks like the rumors were true.
Look what just got posted by People Magazine...

Paradise Continued

Day two and three in Mexico have been a little warmer, and a little more relaxed.

After the exclusive Top Coach cocktail party Monday night, it seemed everyone (including me) got comfortable with the format of TV interviews and business planning by day, mixed with socializing and gourmet meals with these incredibly positive and inspiring coaches.

Last night lead tenor vocalist from Chicago and Beachbody Top Coach Jason Scheff accompanied some of the musically inclined of the group for a couple hours of informal cabaret. At one point he and Tony might have stumbled upon the theme for Shakeology with the refrain, "Excuses, excuses, excuses... there's no more excuses."

The gang just headed out to sight see, and I stayed back to work on the Beachbody Revolution script and catch my plane to get back to the office.

I did a promo for BNN today challenging you to do what it takes to join us next year in Kauai, HI. I really hope you set your sights on the goal and go for it! I just read this quote today. If you're wondering which step to take at this point, maybe which step matters less than taking A STEP:

"Achievement seems to be connected with action. Successful men and woman keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don't quit."

The NEXT One-on-One?

Yesterday the world joined hands and globally celebrated the fiftieth birthday of uber-trainer to the stars, Mr. Tony Horton. And yet he is the one who gave us a gift:

The release of "One on One workouts" with Tony Horton.

If you want to see Tony at his best, most intense, and least scripted, you've got to subscribe to the One-on-One workouts.

What happens is, every so often Tony calls up his buddy Mason Bendewald (director of P90X, etc.) and says "Mace, I just got a bunch of new rock and roll from Jason*, and I came up with a killer routine. Get your butt over here and let's shoot it."

Mason walks in, rolls camera, and Tony goes into "Bring It" mode, one-on-one style. It's intense, with a new one released each month.

If you're a member of TeamBeachbody.com, subscribe online asap so you make sure to get the very first workout, Plyo Legs. (non-members can purchase here... but why wouldn't you want to be a member of the coolest fitness community on the planet?)

And for all 5 people who read this blog, here is the first ever sneak peak at the next routine just created to ship for month two (August). They're all going to be classics!

Who says you can't push the boundaries? Honestly... this job is getting more fun by the week!

A Conversation With Scheffy

You’re going to hear a lot more about the power of Success Links this year, as the concept has caught on fire within the coach community.

Today I was describing the concept of Success Links to a friend over breakfast and she said “it’s kind of like AA sponsorship – where you’re far less likely to relapse yourself if you are accountable to helping someone else succeed.” Well put!

This year’s Top Coach contest is all about building Success Links, where every coach has an incentive to get the person they recruit to build accountability. Every time I describe it to someone I can see the “aha” moment”. Accountability – that’s what has been missing!

Our first Top Coach winner in the new format shocked us all: Jason Scheff, the lead singer of Chicago. He topped the list and has built momentum like we would have never expected from a guy who already has a full time job and who you would never expect to embrace a peer-to-peer marketing concept. Who knew cool people could dig MLM too?

In a recent exchange with Jason, I was again reminded that people who want to help people really understand the value of connecting via Success Links. That’s why Beachbody’s growth plans have the potential of such a dramatic impact – but only when coaches focus their efforts on creating Success Links.

Here’s an excerpt taken from a string of Jason’s emails. He created a whopping 12 Success Links last month, and as you will read below, the guy is excited and as passionate about helping people as he is about rock and roll!

Hey Carl,

Sorry I had to run today so quick. I am back out on the road again, (what else is new, right?) and in Tampa right now.

I'll tell you brother, it's funny that Horton was my trainer back in the day and I *was* in the best shape I'd ever been in, up until that point... but it didn't stick and you know why? No support system other than my trainer, Tony. Once I stopped hiring him it was only a matter of time before I slipped back into being a fat slob! And that isn't a good thing for someone on stage. Nothing worse than seeing a fat, middle aged rocker. As I said to you today, one of the things I really dig is how transparent I've become. I've put my life out there for fans. I had to do something DRASTIC. I had to ANNOUNCE to my fans before I'd lifted a FINGER I was going to get in shape. It's all in my blogs here on MySpace.

I really *got it* at the coaches summit. I'm sitting there thinking, "What are you keeping your mouth shut for?" You see I'm VERY careful to not go after my fans for money. I've kept my reputation and image very pure because that's my heart. So it was a bit of a hurdle to talk about what I'm doing as a coach and all that, but I got over it, OBVIOUSLY! I thought, "What good am I doing ANYBODY by keeping my mouth shut? NO ONE!"

It was in my Scheffy Show webcast that "The Scheffy Challenge" was born. I'd love to say I'm smart enough to come up with something like that but it was ALL the fans. Their idea, their PRIZE they named. It was PURE collaboration in the biggest Web 3.0 sense. EXACTLY what I've been working for. Once I launched the challenge I offered the business opportunity side of it and went through my stumbling of how to present that. I did my best by putting your videos and everything up but, in my culture, there are always naysayers and haters. You got ‘em too bro! You get big and they wanna come after you! So I've been getting the email here and there with the fan that tells me there is talk out there about this *pyramid scheme* I'm involved in. I see it as a GREAT opportunity to explain myself – That’s why I LOVE the web! Because I get to put it all out there so NO ONE can do their own P.R. smear! What great technology we have these days... I can press a button RIGHT NOW and be streaming a live broadcast/webcast and settle the score. For me, this is about helping people – by showing that I was getting myself fit first - and that’s it!

Dude, I wanted to stop eating candy on the back of the bus. I wanted my fingers to stop tingling. I have a 10 year old and a 7 year old that I wasn't playing with because I just didn't have the energy. So that's been my vision brother... I wanted to WORK for my results so it would *stick*. I am self appointing myself to be the *celeb* that finds the *right* way to do this so that it sticks – not just for me, for everybody who cares to listen.

We all know the truth... This WORKS! It's not snake oil or a scam. Since Horton was my trainer back in my FIRST heyday, haaaa, I know what his programs do and how effective they are. I just didn't have the support system back then. So I know first hand how legit this all is... I've been doing it for 10 months now! I'm not saying that the ONLY road to nirvana is *this* product... I'm saying that doing SOMETHING and attaching a supportive group of people to it is the answer. I happened to choose this one. It’s working for me. But I don’t care if people want to climb trees together and support each other from day to day – just do it and help each other!

I'm going to be touring with The Doobie Brothers this summer, just finished a Japan tour with Huey Lewis and The News... and don't think THOSE guys were ALL over me about how I look right now! Huey was flipping out...

The best part about it... it's ALL about just WORKING for it. Get in SHAPE! Everything falls into place. But a funny thing happens on the way to the office when you're doing that... the MUSE happens and the sky's the limit. Talk to you soon... your friend and brother... Jason

New Workout -- One on One with Tony

When Jon Congdon and I went through the Power 90 program for the first time, we had the luxury of doing many of the workouts with Tony in his home gym. In general, Tony is who Tony is. What you see in P90X and P90X+ is the way he is in person. Although, when he's working out at home, there's something a little more intense, a little funnier, and A LOT more unpredictable.

That's why this Spring we did an experiment: What if instead of planning an entire system or routines, we simply sent Mason (director from P90X) with a camcorder to follow Tony as he does his own daily regimen?

We appropriately call these workouts Tony Horton's "One on One". It's just Tony and you working out. No fanciness, except for the soundtrack by Jason Scheff. There's less cueing because Tony is doing the entire workout, every rep. It's real Tony, doing what it takes to get (and stay) absolutely ripped.

The first release of this new series is a plyometrics-legs routine which includes using a medicine ball. I've got two words for you: "Dig. Deeper."

This one should come out in June. We'll releasing a new 1-on-1 video each month. You can get each DVD as soon as they are released by subscribing to the series and you'll also get a DVD wallet which will hold a year's worth, or you can buy them as "back issues" one at a time.

I've seen the first bunch, and they are every bit as entertaining as they are great workouts.

The Aftermath

I am getting deluged with comments and notes form people who came to the Summit. WOW! I wanted to share some of the comments, because no one would believe it if I just talked about it (note who is going to get to work out with the lead singer from Chicago!)

Hey Carl. I wanted to say a huge thank you for putting together the fantastic 2 day coaching summit in Anaheim. In case you're wondering, it's Brit Boy, the strange speaking English dude who sounds a little like Danny Teeson, but not as funny ;)

To get to chat with such inspirational people such as Mark Briggs, The French's, Traci Morrow, and Perry Tinsley about this wonderful community makes me feel extremely fortunate to have found BB. What a club! What a 2 days in Anaheim!!

Jason Scheff is coming to Vegas, where I live, in 3 weeks and suggested me and him work out at the MGM! Can you believe that?? The lead singer of Chicago wants a work out buddy??? Holy cow!

I signed up finally as a coach after Anaheim, not because the potential financial rewards sounded so appealing but for the desire to help others better themselves. That is reward enough but if you want to pay us also then who am I to complain! ;)

The event at The Grove was mind blowing and I wouldn't like to be in your shoes when next years bill comes around!!!

Cheers Carl.
Mike (Brit Boy)

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for the amazing work that Beachbody is doing and for the excellent things that are coming up for all of us. It is a true blessing to be a part of a company that really cares about people and wants to see people transform their lives both physically and financially. This is SO much bigger than any one person - it's all about being a walking billboard for health and wellness, and bringing others along for the journey. Your "BIG WHY" has fueled ALL of us who came to Anaheim this weekend, and for that, we send SO MUCH LOVE AND BLESSINGS to you and your family. (Proverbs 11:24-25)

Personally, this meeting set me on FIRE, and I am ready to take Birmingham, Alabama by STORM!! Be on the lookout.... ;)

Thanks again, and we love you all so much!! Send love to all of the staff, too (they were so great)!!!

Hey Carl - it's Mason B. GREAT EVENT bro! Nice work. I'm glad I was there to get a better idea of what it's all about. Here's something from my thread I thought you'd enjoy:

What truly motivated about the summit was not the speeches, not the workouts, it was the people. From the Beach Body staff who opened doors for us, to the faces like Carl, Jon, Tony, Mason, Jason & others, and also our team members like Mark, Traci & Jay who shared their success stories to the whole group you all were and are truly inspirational and transforming. Together we all can start a worldwide revolution as Carl shared with us, and that revolution begins with us.We are the X+X Fanatics - BRING IT!

Carl,

I know that you've gotten a lot of emails regarding the coach's summit, but I didn't want that to prevent me from telling you my thoughts. There are too many times that people complain about things, and not enough times when they pass on praise. Well, relax...I'm passing on the praise this time!;-) That Summit was TOP NOTCH!!! I left for California still a bit skeptical about coaching. I wanted it to be a good opportunity, and I thought it was a good opportunity. I came home absolutely convinced that it's not just a good opportunity, but THE opportunity of my lifetime. I think that only some people get the chance to be in on something huge from the very beginning. Those moments only come around once or twice...if that... in a lifetime. I've heard people describe this like being in on Starbucks before they became big, and now I know what that means. I feel it deep down in my soul that this is going to take off, and I'm SO grateful that I'm along for the ride! Now, when I approach my family, I'm going to tell them that I'm doing this with or without them, and I don't want them to come back to me in a year and say "Why didn't you tell me about this a year ago?" :D

My reasons?

1) To wake up every day excited to be doing something that I absolutely LOVE to do.
2) To be able to plan a vacation or make some other type of big purchase without thinking "Can I afford that"?
3) To be able to build a new house if we decide to do that or to remodel this one to be our dream house.
4) To bless my family, friends, and future friends with a healthy and financially free lifestyle.
5) To be able to give more away to charity. I'd love to be able to donate enough to drill a water well in Africa and travel there to watch them start it up!
6) To get to hang out with more people like those I met last weekend. I have NEVER been around a group of people who are happier, more interesting, and full of life!!!

So basically, this about tapping into this opportunity to bless my life so much that it overflows and blesses everyone around me! Thank you SO MUCH for allowing us all to be a part of this. It was something that you said in your blog in December 2006 that got me into this. I was looking for a way to stay committed to my own fitness program, and you said "I didn't get into shape and stay there until I owned a fitness company. This is an opportunity for our customers to have the same opportunity."

I got into this as a way to stay committed to my own fitness (which has worked beautifully by the way... I've maintained my college weight of 120 even through the holidays), but it has grown to be so much more over this past year. Milan said to me right in the beginning that this was more about the person we are becoming. Well, I really like the me that I've become in this past year, and I have a feeling I'm going to REALLY like the me next year that will be headed off to the top coach celebration with you! ;-)

P90X+ Sneak Peek

These two previews show how the work is coming along on the five new P90X+ DVD's, due this December. Jason Scheff's music is mixing in very well, and the editing is tight!

Get your Beachbody Pull-Up Bar set-up, because this new one is fun! The "7-Point Pull-Up" from "Upper Body Plus"... Who said pull-ups couldn't be interesting?

A new move that will soon be a favorite, Tony created the "Gladiator" as part of "Kenpo Cardio Plus", a DVD which will take the concept of Kenpo and turns it up a few notches.
